PET Plastic Bottles Are More Favorable For Environmental Protection Than Glass Bottles And Aluminum Cans

Plastic bottle packaging survey shows that a PET Commission commissioned by a PETRA Commission commissioned a survey that disposable PET bottles had less environmental impact on life cycle than aluminum cans or glass bottles.

The survey conducted by the Franklin Federation compares the total energy consumption, solid waste and greenhouse gas emissions of 100000 ounce soft drinks packed in 20 ounces PET bottles, 8 ounces of glass bottles or 12 ounces of aluminum cans. The survey said the results showed that PET bottles emitted less greenhouse gases, generated waste and less energy consumption throughout the life cycle.

When the energy consumption, emission and solid waste of 10000 equal size 12 ounces containers are compared, the overall energy consumption is about the same. But the greenhouse gas emissions from PET bottles are only 2/3 of the aluminum cans, about half the amount of glass bottles.

When comparing 12 ounces of PET bottles to 12 ounces of aluminum cans or 12 ounces glass bottles, the former produces less solid waste. But from the volume, the volume of the solid waste produced by the aluminum tank is 16.5 cubic yards, the PET bottle is 29.9 cubic yards and the glass bottle is 37.3-44.1 cubic.

Plastic bottle packaging survey, compared with 100000 ounces of soft drinks packaged in 20 ounces PET bottles, 8 ounces of glass bottles and 12 ounces of aluminum cans, concluded that PET bottles emitted less greenhouse gas than the aluminum cans during the life cycle, 59% less than the glass bottles, and 77% less than the glass bottles.

The total energy consumption of PET bottles is 11 million BTU for soft drinks per 100000 ounces, 16 million BTU for aluminum cans and 26 million 600 thousand BTU in glass bottles.

The PET bottle produces a total of 302 pounds of solid waste, 767 pounds for aluminum cans and 4457 pounds in glass bottles. The solid waste volume of PET is 0.67 cubic yards, the aluminum tank is 0.95 cubic yards and the glass bottle is 2.14 cubic yards.
